Total War: Three Kingdoms Delayed by SEGA and Creative Assembly for a Second Time

Less than a month before it’s intended launch, SEGA and Creative Assembly have delayed Total War: Three Kingdoms for a second time. While the first delay was between vague Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 release windows, this one is a bit more firm, pushing Total War: Three Kingdoms back from March 7 until May 23.

Rob Bartholomew, Studio Brand Director at Creative Assembly gave a bit more insight into why Total War: Three Kingdom was delayed, stating that Creative Assembly is “lucky to be in a position to do the right thing for our games,” which in this case meant pushing it back. “It’s important that we give you a game that you can enjoy to the fullest, and we’re excited for you to see what we have in store,” he said.

For a large strategy game like Total War: Three Kingdoms, balance and smooth performance are key elements. If neither of these were up to par yet, it would make sense to delay the game as a whole instead of releasing a disappointing title. While the press release regarding Total War: Three Kingdoms being pushed back was quite light on details, a post on the game’s website gives a bit more insight.

Rob reiterated the fact that “it’s more important to give you a game that you can enjoy to the fullest, rather than stick to a release date just because,” before answering some other lingering questions about the delay. Creative Assembly has confirmed that this delay won’t impact the release of new Total War: Warhammer II DLC or those who have already pre-ordered the game. The developers also promised that pushing Total War: Three Kingdoms back won’t impact how much they show of the game. If anything, this delay will just means we’ll see more prior the the game’s launch.

While this delay was not accompanied by any new trailer, you can check out the trailer for the most recent General reveal, Dong Zhuo, below. Total War: Three Kingdoms will now be releasing for PC on May 23. You can also pre-order the game Humble Bundle if this new release date works better for you.
