Inti Creates Explains Decision to Launch Blaster Master Zero 2 During Nindies Showcase Spring 2019
Outside of Cadence of Hyrule, one of the biggest surprises of the Nindies Showcase Spring 2019 held by Nintendo in March was that Blaster Master Zero 2 was both announced and released that day by Inti Creates. The original Blaster Master Zero was a major title early on in the Nintendo Switch’s lifespan, so this was a really notable indie release. During an interview at E3 2019, DualShockers asked Inti Creates CEO Takuya Aizu why they decided to release Blaster Master Zero 2 in that way and if the game met their expectations.
When it comes to the Nindies Showcase Spring 2019 reveal, Aizu-san confirmed that Inti Creates “wanted the game to come out in March of 2019” and that they “noticed that there was going to be a Nintendo Direct around that time and we were fortunate enough to get into that Nintendo Direct.” Inti Creates ultimately decided to announce and release the game then because “if you can announce during a Direct, you do it.”
As for the question on the game’s performance, Inti Creates’ CEO compared how it did to the first game. “The pace of sales has been about the same [between Blaster Master Zero and Blaster Master Zero 2]. One of the biggest differences was that Blaster Master Zero was basically a launch title for Switch, so there wasn’t that many unit out there. As the install base grew, sales would steadily rise with the install base…so the circumstances by which it sold are a bit different.”
Aizu-san admitted that Blaster Master Zero 2 has had a lot more competition, but also teased some ideas Inti Creates is considering in order to keep the game relevant. “Blaster Master Zero 2 released with a larger install base and with a lot of games on there so going forward we are trying to figure out how we can breathe more life in the game, add new content, release a demo version, what have you. We are figuring that out now.”
Blaster Master Zero 2 is currently available on Nintendo Switch. If you want to try the original, it just came to Steam.
